Swings and roundabouts
NOMA Architects are interested in the rejuvenation of under-utilised spaces in Bristol and how architectural intervention can provide a sustainable future both financially and environmentally.
One of the members of our team, Katharine Hegarty, is a director for Bristol’s Bearpit Improvement Group (BIG), a community interest company that is creating Bristol’s first Community Action Zone in the sunken central area of the St James Barton roundabout in the centre of the city. BIG’s ethos is to deliver manageable, incremental changes that promote innovation and social engagement within the community.
In collaboration with BIG, NOMA produced a submission for the recent RIBA Green Manifesto Exhibition, winning a commendation. The proposals included concept visuals for the transformation of the “Bearpit” into a space that is welcoming, inclusive and diverse, and to improve the ambience for users.
